How many examinations will there be?

Every module is concluded with an examination. The exams can either be written or practical design projects. At the beginning of the semester you will be informed of the method of examination.

What happens if I fail a project or examination?


In the case of failing an exam or project you will receive one additional opportunity to repeat the paper. Examinations may be re-written at the university on  fixed dates. If you can not participate in this examination, you can arrange an individual appointment with the programme supervisor.

How is contact with lecturers and fellow students maintained from home?

Virtual learning refers largely to telephone conferences which have proven to be very popular and successful. Together with your lecturer and fellow colleagues, you may clarify and ask general questions, as well as discuss subjects relevant to the examination during these conference calls.
Furthermore you can contact the lecturers at any time by telephone or by email.

Which degree title do I receive after I have completed the programme?

The state approved Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree is awarded by the Hochschule Wismar - University of Applied Sciences - Technology, Business and Design. It is recognised nationally and internationally as a verification of technical/ scientific competence.
After completing your Master of Science degree it is than possible to continue studying towards your Ph.D.

Which documents must I submit for admission?


It is necessary to include the following certified documents for admission into the distance learning programme:

  • Signed application form and course contract
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • High School Leaving Certificate (certified copy)
  • Proof of diploma, bachelor‘s or master‘s degree (certified copy)
  • Proof of Work Experience in the field of your previous degree (certified copy)
  • Passport Identity photo

Copies must be certified by a Justice of the Peace or your Public Affairs Office.

When and how often do the seminars take place?


The seminars will take place at the beginning of each semester. You will be informed of the location and date by your course coordinator well in advance.

Can I incorporate projects from my practical training?


The design project in the second semester is proposed by you, as well as the project work within the module specialisation 'urban planning' in the third semester. This programme supports the integration of your working activities such as the development of your own professional projects. This also applies for your Master Thesis in the fourth semester.
The size and complexity of your project must however be discused with your supervisors.

What is the closing date for applications?

The final day for submission of applications is 31th of January 2013 for the summer semester starting in March 2013.

Does the degree entitle myself to enter into the registry of architects as a licensed architect?


Since the introduction of the Bachelor/ Master system, admission into the Association of Architects is decided by an individual examination.

However, the registration committee must make a decision for each individual as to whether you have completed a minimum of 4 years practical training (dependent on the country you want to be registered in).

As part of the admission process for the Association of Architects you must prove that you have gained 240 Credits from your architectural studies. In the Master of Architecture and Environment at the Hochschule Wismar you will achieve total of 90 Credits (incl. the Master Thesis).

Therefore you must have at least 150 Credits from previous studying within the field of architecture tobe able to obtain the qualification from the Association of Architects (in addition to meeting other requirements).
